REGISTERED NURSE - RN - SCHOOL NURSE CareerStaff Unlimited is looking for caring and passionate Registered Nurses for the 2017-2018 School YearSCHOOL NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION REGISTERED NURSE, RN:1. Hours: 7:20am to 2:40pm, 8:30am to 4:00pm - Monday - Friday (no nights or weekends)2. Work a full school Calendar: Beginning of August through end of May3. As a school nurse you will provide care to various sick/injured children according to health guidelines. You will be expected to follow MD orders according to PCP forms.MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FOR REGISTERED NURSE, RN:1. Familiar with Diastat, Glucagon, Epi-pens, Inhalers, Nebulizers2. Route of meds frequently given: subcutaneous, enteral, oral, topical, eye drops, ear drops, nasal sprays3. Oxygen administration via nasal cannula, bag, mask. Familiar with concentrators and portable tanks as well as how to change them out.4. Documentation - Online/Paper5. Identifies adverse reactions related to medications6. Insulin7. Sliding scale doses8. Doses based on carbohydrate counts9. Insulin pen, syringes, insulin pumpsSKILLS FOR REGISTERED NURSE, RN:1. Treatment of diabetic children2. Glucose monitoring3. Ketone monitoring4. Hypoglycemic interventions5. Hyperglycemic interventions6. Insulin administration. Most doses in the school setting are based on carbohydrate counts. May also see students who have orders for sliding scale.7. Insulin pumps8. Enteral Nutrition:9. Medication administration, enteral feedings, trouble shooting, site monitoring, placement check, tube replacement10. Nasoenteric tubes11. PEG tubes12. CPR, AED, First aidSKILLS CONTINUED FOR REGISTERED NURSE, RN:1. Vital measurements: respirations, heart rate, temperature (P.O., tympanic, and axillary routes), pain2. Assessment: lung sounds, heart sounds, neurological, gastrointestinal, signs of abuse/neglect, various injuries3. Seizure precautions and crisis management4. Able to identify adverse reactions/negative changes in a child s assessment and is able to appropriately report these changes5. Identifies and appropriately reports emergent medical situations6. Catheterization of males and female children7. Tracheostomy care, replacement, and crisis management. In-line and standard suction catheters.8. Application of splints, ace bandages, cast care, warm/cool compresses9. Childhood behavioral/mood disorders10. Commonly seen medical conditions in a school:11.
